Welcome to South Hetton Cricket Club committed to development for all. Please use this site for your reference and we will be pleased to welcome you when you visit.
Since the formation of our Club in 1880 we have afforded cricketing opportunities for over four generations within the former East Durham coalfield. Located between the two mining communities of Easington and Easington Lane upon CISWO (Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation) land; the Welfare Park run by a Welfare Committee until 1984. The Land was given by Deed of Gift when local CISWO ceased to function. There is a restrictive covenant, which prevents use of the land for any other purpose than sport and recreation. The Cricket Club have forged a strong workforce partnership, which has allowed for the development of cricket to a wider age group and support in application for funding. With the closure of our colliery, the Club today represents a vibrant sporting and social centre for the community, and without doubt is an important part of the lives of many people.
During our 128 years of existence, the club has won 17 Championships and 20 various competition cups. Our senior side is in Division One.
Our members are drawn from all walks of life and from a diverse number of industrials, thus enhancing our reputation as one of the best cricket clubs in the northeast. Our ability to be able to recruit quality players on the Club on an annual basic further enhances our reputation as one of the pre-eminent Clubs in the League.
The cricket club has many events throughout the year including a darts and dominoes team on Mondays, quiz night on Thursdays and regular social events on Saturdays. All Sky Sports and ESPN Sports events are shown in the clubhouse. Please feel free to come in and visit us at South Hetton Cricket Club and show your support for our village sport.
